Swimming is especially good for the muscles and joints because your body is supported by the water which alleviates stress in the joints and ligaments and reduces or prevents injuries. Swimming exercises muscles and joints, including muscles that are rarely used. Gym equipment, in contrast, doesn't work the tiny muscle fibers as thoroughly as water or other functional exercises. The water supports the body so your joints do not get injured.
